About Me

Hello and welcome to Adventures After Sixty! I’m Kari – a veteran teacher, a sixty plus adventurer, photographer, art enthusiast, mother of two successful adult children, grandmother of two amazing grandsons and multiple grand-fur babies. I currently live and work in Japan.

Something happens after sixty, we become very aware of how precious time is and that we need to really live our lives. I love to travel, so living and working abroad seemed like a perfect way to combine those two elements of my life. So far, I have visited seven countries, twelve prefectures in Japan, and 30 states in America. I would love to visit all of the prefectures before I leave Japan. With the current situation with Covid-19, my travel has slowed down a bit and as I begin this blog, my travel will be in a small area of Japan. I may also post some photos that were taken before restrictions were imposed.

I decided to create this blog to share my passion for travel and photography and to inspire others to travel. Foreign travel can be a little intimidating but also exhilarating. I believe that we learn so much by visiting other countries. Not only do we learn about other cultures, but we learn about ourselves. We learn that we can rely on ourselves during challenges (and yes, things will happen). We learn about our strengths and our weaknesses. And we learn that we can face some of our fears.

So, come with me on my journeys. Hopefully you will find some new travel destinations, see some new places through my lens, and find hope and inspiration.
